Workers and officials from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) requested party president Sharad Pawar to immediately revoke his resignation from the top position on Tuesday evening in Pune after learning of his abrupt declaration. If Pawar (82), whose birthplace Baramati is in the Pune region of western Maharashtra, does not withdraw his resignation, which was announced in Mumbai in the afternoon, they threatened to quit together.
Numerous party members gathered at the city’s party office after hearing about Pawar’s resignation, according to Pradeep Deshmukh, a spokesperson for the NCP in Pune, who claimed they were unable to control their tears. He said that Pawar serves as a father figure for the NCP as a whole and that such leaders never leave office.
Party members and office holders “will remain firm on their resignation if Pawar saheb does not reverse his decision,” Deshmukh warned. In the meanwhile, Pawar’s assistant Vitthal Maniyar said that the former Union minister’s decision to leave down as leader of the party he created in 1999 was neither unexpected or abrupt.
“Pawar saheb may have given this choice a lot of thinking. He must be considering transferring the duty to the next unit and getting them ready while he is still in action, the man stated. Though Pawar saheb has requested more time to reconsider his resignation, Maniyar said, “I am confident that it was a well-considered choice and he will persuade party leaders to accept it.”
“Saheb hasn’t abandoned social work or politics. He will continue to work with the same zeal that he has up until now, whether or not he is the party’s leader, he said. Maniyar said that the seasoned politician believes in the democratic functioning of the party and any decision on the matter would be made jointly when asked about Pawar’s potential successor if he sticks to his plan to resign from the top party position.
