CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said the coalition’s goal was to defend the nation from the multifaceted attack on it after 26 opposition parties unanimously chose the name INDIA for their alliance on Tuesday.
The Left politician told PTI that protecting the Indian republic’s under attack secular and democratic nature is their top concern given the current situation. “For so, it is crucial that individuals leading such attacks be excluded from holding influence over the government and the State. Therefore, we must all work together to rescue India. Saving India was the concept, he remarked.
Indian Developmental Inclusive Alliance is known as INDIA. Yechury, a participant in the opposition gathering in Bengaluru, said that the name also implies “we are for India.”
“Let’s clarify what India is, then. This came up throughout the conversations. We will now start having conversations at the state level. In certain places, like Kerala, where one front is headed by the Congress and the other by us, the situation is such that there is direct conflict. This will go on.
Additionally, as a result of this, the BJP has not even one MP or MLA in that region. The Congress, the Left, and the secular forces opposed both the BJP and the TMC in the most recent panchayat elections in Bengal, he stated.
The goal, according to the head of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), is to maximize the pooling of anti-BJP votes so that a split in the opposition votes does not give the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) the kind of advantage it has had throughout the course of the previous two terms at the Center.
Yechury said that even during the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, there was no such face opposing the governing NDA headed by then-prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, yet the government created after the election survived for ten years. This was a reference to the lack of a leader for the opposition.
At its next conference in Mumbai, the opposition is expected to choose a convenor and create committees to manage its campaign. “Back in 2004, we had a face who had served the nation for 10 years. Thus, a substitute will appear, according to Yechury.
