Maoists attacked the Special Task Force (STF) with an improvised explosive device (IED) on Wednesday night in the Bijapur area of Chhattisgarh; killed two members, and wounding four more, according to police.
A combined team of security officers was returning from an anti-Maoist operation in the woodlands around the intersection of the districts of Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada when the event occurred in the Tarrem area.
The Bijapur police released a statement saying, “Teams of STF, DRG, CoBRA, and CRPF from the said districts went on a special operation in a joint operation on July 16 after receiving intelligence about the presence of Naxals belonging to Darbha and West Bastar divisions and military company no. 2.”
When the staff was leaving after the operation was over, the Maoists threw IEDs at them. Satyer Singh Kange, a resident of the Narayanpur area, and Bharat Sahu, a resident of Raipur, have been identified as the two troops slain in the incident.
According to the police, more security personnel have been dispatched to the scene, and the required preparations have been made for the injured STF jawans’ proper care.
Six Maoists were slain by security forces last month in the largest attack on People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army Company No. 6, which is regarded as a key component of the Naxalites’ attacking force, in the Narayanpur area of Chhattisgarh. The June 6 incident happened within the boundaries of the Orcha police station, close to the villages of Gobel and Thulthuli.
The Maoists allegedly held a 38 lakh cumulative bounty, according to the police.
