According to an official, the guy reportedly made friends with a 26-year-old lady while travelling from Alibaug to Roha villages in the Raigad district and kept in contact with her.
The official said that he had lured the lady to Panvel a few days earlier on false pretences, brought her to a lodge, tainted her drink with something, and then sexually assaulted her there.
Further investigation is being conducted after a complaint was filed under section 376 of the Indian Criminal Code (IPC), which deals with punishment for rape.
