The Enforcement Directorate has informed a Delhi court that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is consciously attempting to raise his blood sugar levels.
According to sources, ED attorney Zoheb Hossain told special judge Kaveri Baweja that the Delhi CM, who is suspected of a scam and is presently being held in judicial custody at Tihar jail, stated that he had diabetes. However, he ordered food delivery from his house with a judge’s approval, and he has been eating a lot of sugar-filled items.
Kejriwal has been consuming sweets, including mangoes, and has even been known to drink sugar-sweetened tea, according to the ED’s attorney in court. The application was made in response to Kejriwal’s unique request for routine blood sugar checks and video conference consultations with his primary care physician.
The fact that he was permitted to eat home-cooked meals despite claiming to have high blood sugar is concerning. However, he is drinking tea with sugar, candy, and mangoes. Hossain stated, “This is a basis to create a ground for bail.”
Hossain informed the court that the ED had written to the Tihar jail administration to inquire about Kejriwal’s medication schedule and eating habits when they discovered his diet and eating patterns.
Vivek Jain, Kejriwal’s attorney, disputed the ED’s filing, arguing that it was made solely for publicity purposes. He did, however, withdraw his request for routine blood pressure checks and a video chat with a trusted physician, claiming he would make a stronger case in due course.
The Rouse Avenue court received a previous filing from Kejriwal’s attorney concerning the sugar levels and health of the scam-accused Congressman.
Following a submission, the court had approved the delivery of Kejriwal’s home-cooked meals.
A sugar-level trick from the hit television show Prison Break
Notably, there are some pop-culture allusions in the plan to break out of jail by utilising fictitious blood sugar levels. Michael Scofield, the lead character in the widely watched American television series Prison Break, devises a complex plot to escape the high-security Fox River prison with his brother Lincoln. By taking a medication called PUGNAc, which makes him appear to be diabetic, Michael allows the jail officials to believe that he has the disease. In the end, he fixes a critical component of his plan using the trips to the jail hospital, and he even becomes a buddy with the jail physician. Michael and his brother, along with a few others, manage to break out of the Fox River jail in the end.
The hysteria that the AAP has stoked regarding Kejriwal’s “severe diabetes”
Together with ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi Marlena, the Aam Aadmi Party had claimed that Kejriwal suffered from severe diabetes and that if his condition worsened, the ED and Tihar Jail would be held accountable.
On April 3, the Tihar Jail administration refuted rumours that Kejriwal’s health was deteriorating and declared that everything was well. They also mentioned that other important metrics are normal and that his weight has been consistent. Additionally, they stated that the Delhi CM is receiving home-cooked meals by count order.
Liquor policy Scam
Delhi The Enforcement Directorate (ED) detained Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 21 about the now-cancelled Delhi Liquor Policy. The trial court sent Kejriwal to ED custody until March 28. Subsequently, the court gave ED custody until April 1st, at which point he was placed under judicial detention for 15 days. He was moved to Tihar Jail on April 1st, where he is presently being held. He is receiving food and other amenities from home as per court guidelines.
The Delhi government unveiled a revised alcohol policy in November 2021. The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee protested the policy in June 2022. The Delhi Chief Secretary brought attention to the policy’s irregularities in July 2022. Delhi LG asked the CBI to start an investigation, and ED joined it by filing a PMLA complaint. Since then, other people have been taken into custody, including Satyendra Jain, Sanjay Singh, and Manish Sisodia. In the liquor policy matter, BRS MLA K Kavitha is also being held in prison.
The Delhi High Court rejected Kejriwal’s appeal against the ED’s detention on April 9. The Delhi High Court expressed severe concerns about CM Kejriwal’s involvement, stating that the evidence presented by the ED indicates he participated in a conspiracy and deliberately used the proceeds of the crime to conceal them.
Mr. Arvind Kejriwal engaged in active participation and conspiracy to use and conceal the proceeds of the crime, according to the evidence the ED collected. The HC had observed that “the ED’s case also suggests his involvement both in a personal capacity and as the convenor of AAP.”
