On Thursday, the country’s capital will host the opening ceremony of the World Buddhist Summit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak.
The event will start at Hotel Ashok in Delhi at 10 a.m. In cooperation with the World Buddhist Confederation, the Ministry of Culture is hosting the two-day Summit (IBC).
Professor Robert Thurman, a renowned American authority on Tibetan Buddhism, and His Holiness Thich Tri Quang, the Deputy Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, will deliver the keynote addresses during the gathering.
In 2020, Professor Thurman received the esteemed Padma Shri Award in recognition of his efforts to preserve India’s rich Buddhist legacy.
The World Buddhist Summit is centred on the idea of “Responses to Current Challenges: Theory to Praxis.”
“The Summit is an endeavour to engage academics and leaders of the worldwide Buddhist Community on issues of Buddhist and universal concern and to develop policy recommendations to jointly address them. The conversation at the Summit will focus on how the core principles of the Buddha Dhamma may provide motivation and direction in modern contexts, according to a statement from the PMO.
Eminent academics, Sangha leaders, and Dharma practitioners from across the globe will participate in the Summit and address important global concerns while seeking solutions in the Buddha Dhamma that are founded on universal principles, according to the press release.
The four topics that will be covered during the discussions are “Buddha Dhamma and Peace, Buddha Dhamma: Environmental Crisis, Health and Sustainability, Preservation of Nalanda Buddhist Tradition, Buddha Dhamma Pilgrimage, Living Heritage and Buddha Relics: a resilient foundation to India’s centuries-old cultural ties to countries in South, South-East, and East Asia,” it was added.
