The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) has launched a significant endeavor to integrate sports management into IIMs’ curricula in order to link sports and education.
Sports event manager, sports marketing, sports agent, sports talent manager, support analyst, and media & communication manager are just a few of the courses that are being developed.
According to experts, these courses are now new in India, but in the future, the advantages of this training will be shown at the Olympics and other national and international contests.
The first institution to provide sports management courses at the international level is IIM Rohtak.
International expertise have reportedly been included into this endeavor, according to IIM Rohtak. University of San Francisco, University of Ulster, Leeds Beckett University, University of Zurich, University of Porto, University of New Haven, and University of Helsinki are just a few of the international universities with faculties affiliated with the IIM that have expertise in the field of sports management.
Eminent sports figures like Ayaz Memon, Niraj Kumar, Jeev Milkha Singh, Rishi Narayan, and Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi are also offering their professional advice in training and serving as academic advisers to the program, according to IIM Rohtak.
According to Michael Godman, Associate Professor and Guest Faculty at the IIM Rohtak and the University of San Francisco’s Sports Management Program, “Sports Management is a very broad and in-depth preparation to contribute to the sports industry.”
“The business of sports is expanding, particularly in this rising market that needs professionals who can compete off the field just as players do on the field, which is a dynamic industry. The next generation of sports business executives in India are learning the requisite skills, knowledge, attitude, and network thanks to my involvement in this program, he said.
Prof. Dheeraj Sharma, director of IIM Rohtak, told IANS that “the sports business is substantial and expanding quickly. Professionals in sports management are required as the demand to professionalize the sports sector grows. Professionals in sports management are required to handle a variety of business facets of entertainment and sports.
“Professionals with expertise in a variety of fields, including sports marketing, sports law, sports finance, event management, sports infrastructure management, sponsorship, sports organizations, etc., are projected to be produced through the IIM Rohtak Sports Management program. The students enrolled in this programme here might also get scholarships. More athletes would be inspired to attend our institution for higher study thanks to this scholarship, he said.
According to Prof. Dheeraj, the IIM offers a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Management. A career in sports management at IIM Rohtak would be fantastic if you have a love for sports and a talent for management.
The program offers participants a cutting-edge, specialized curriculum that can compete with any of the finest Sports Management programs in the world. This will guarantee professional growth, networking opportunities, and abilities in fields including sports law, marketing, business, and special events. Selected individuals who have competed for India in Asian, Commonwealth, Olympic, etc. games will also be eligible for scholarships.
A 2-year Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Management has been developed by IIM. Anyone with a bachelor’s degree (in any field), interest in sports, and performance ability is eligible to apply for its third batch. Candidates have until July 18 to apply. A Sports Assessment Aptitude Test (Online Mode) and an Online Personal Interview will make up the selection procedure.
After successfully completing this program, participants will have the option to pursue an M.Sc. in Sports Management from the University of Ulster. All courses will count as comparable to the minimum credit requirement for the granting of an M.Sc degree with the University of Ulster, with the exception of a 60-credit Sports Consultancy Project (to be completed over the course of around 5 months).
IIM claims that prior batch members have competed in sports (such as basketball, badminton, tennis, and others) at the national and international levels. They have accepted internship positions with the BWF Super Series, AFC Cup (Asian Football Confederation), Chennaiyin Football Club, and many other sports organizations.
