The cases of farmer suicides are not stopping in Marathwada, Maharashtra. Now a shocking figure has come that on an average three farmers are giving their lives every day. In the last five months, 391 farmers have committed suicide in Marathwada. As per media reports.
There has been an increase in farmers’ suicides in Marathwada for the last few days. The maximum number of farmers’ suicides have come from Beed district. In Beed, 98 farmers took their lives this month. After this, Dharashiv district is the most affected, where 80 farmers’ suicide cases have been registered. At least 13 farmers have given their lives in Hingoli. as per reports.
Last year 1023 farmers gave their lives
The record of Marathwada region of Marathwada has been bad for the past many years in terms of farmers. According to the media report, in the year 2022, 1023 farmers took their own lives in Marathwada. This information was given by the Divisional Commissioner’s Office of Aurangabad in January this year. The Divisional Commissioner had told that during 2001 to 2022, 14431 farmers have committed suicide in the area. Of these, 7605 farmers had received government assistance.
Between 2011 and 2020, the highest number of farmer suicides occurred in 2015, when 1133 farmers committed suicide. In 2006, 379 farmers committed suicide, which was the highest number during 2001 to 2010. Activists working for the farmers say that in the last few years there has been a drought situation in this area, which has increased the problems of the farmers. Along with this, it has also been said that the irrigation network in the area is not being used to its full capacity.
