Although WhatsApp has flatly denied that it would allow advertisements to appear in the user’s primary chat window, there may still be other areas for the corporation to post advertisements. Additionally, WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart made a hint this week about other locations where users may soon begin to encounter advertisements.
Cathcart was recently mentioned discussing placing advertisements elsewhere in a report. He also mentioned WhatsApp’s opinion that placing advertisements on the messaging app’s primary chat screen is not the best business strategy. He continued by suggesting that WhatsApp display advertisements in Status or even in the newly introduced Channels feature.
Meta has verified in this report that WhatsApp has not yet begun testing advertisements in Status. That being said, Cathcart’s discussion of WhatsApp advertisements and their potential distribution channels is scarcely shocking. Similar to Instagram Stories, WhatsApp Status allows you to broadcast your location or emotions.
With its focus on marketing, Channels enables celebrities to create exclusive WhatsApp groups where users can join up for a variety of news, updates, and other content. With over a billion people actively using WhatsApp every day, Meta and Co. are anxious to promote WhatsApp Channels as a means of increasing the platform’s revenue. All companies needed was their cell numbers to engage with clients, which is why WhatsApp launched its Business edition.
However, Meta demands more from WhatsApp, and it seems that Mark Zuckerberg and company see this new approach as the popular messaging app’s next big source of income. Although introducing advertisements is unlikely to be warmly received by consumers, Meta is more concerned with increasing income from its companies, which also include Instagram and Facebook.
