Aakash Chopra, a former opener, believes that Kuldeep Yadav is a middle order wicket-taker made of gold after his performance on the current West Indies tour. The wrist spinner has been an uncontested starter in the starting XI after successfully wrapping his web around West Indies hitters in both ODIs and T20Is.
Kuldeep, who missed the first T20I owing to a minor ailment, had a triumphant comeback in the third T20I, taking three wickets to help India keep West Indies to 159/5 in 20 overs.
Chopra believes that Kuldeep’s self-assurance has returned and said that India would need him at the T20 World Cup, which will be held under similar circumstances.
“It’s definitely back, and he’s acting a little differently. I’m making an effort to plan a bit ahead. The T20 World Cup will be held right there in the West Indies. You would need a bowler in these circumstances who wins wickets to maintain you in the game, Chopra stated on Jio Cinema.
Chopra referred to Kuldeep as “gold dust” and predicted that his capacity to capture wickets in the middle overs would help India win the 2019 ODI World Cup.
The way T20 is played makes it crucial to consistently take wickets. A wicket-taking bowler is priceless, particularly in the middle overs. His performance in the forthcoming 50-over World Cup will also be significant since he is already doing well in ODIs, the expert said.
Kuldeep didn’t qualify for either of the last two ICC tournaments, the T20 World Cup in 2021 and 2022, but his current performance puts him in a great position to qualify for the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India in October-November.
When discussing Kuldeep’s performance in the third T20I, Chopra emphasized the significance of Nicholas Pooran’s wicket and how the Chinese player was able to trap him.
We have seen what Nicholas Pooran is capable of doing once he begins shooting, so it was a crucial over. He rejected that guy today as well after playing an incredible sweep as a right-hander. From a spin-bowling viewpoint, India’s choices were limited to Kuldeep. Chahal still had one over to go, and everything else was speed. You anticipated that pace would approach and capture Pooran. Pooran throws a good spin, but keep in mind that he is a West Indian. They’ll play medium speed more effectively than spin. Since this is merely a 20-over game, the ball does not reverse swing.
