According to a statement from the Mumbai Police, legendary former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar filed a complaint on Friday against the “unauthorized” use of his name, image, and voice in “misleading advertisements.”
An unnamed individual has been charged with violating sections 426, 465, and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by the Mumbai Police Cyber Cell. In the lawsuit, Sachin claimed that the adverts had been misused to deceive people into making online purchases of goods and services.
“At SRT Sports Management Pvt. Ltd. (SRTSM), we have seen efforts to unlawfully imitate Mr. Sachin Tendulkar’s characteristics in order to market goods and services that are unrelated to him. These actions are being taken with the purposeful and malign goal of duping naive consumers into purchasing illegal goods and services online, according to a statement from SRTSM.
The statement added, “We have filed an official complaint with the Cyber Cell section and have brought these to the attention of social media sites where such deceptive adverts are being disseminated.
The situation is the subject of an inquiry.
