Sharad Pawar, the leader of the NCP, said on Sunday that the BJP’s political influence is waning throughout most of the nation. He also said that people are not backing those (parties and leaders) who want to forge an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is a pan-Indian organization, while speaking to a gathering of the office-bearers of the Nationalist Congress Party here.
“The people of our nation do not support those who want to join forces with the BJP. This is the overall image of India. Simply pull out a map of the nation to show that the BJP is not in control of even one state from south India, he remarked. Notably, eight MLAs including Pawar’s nephew, a prominent NCP official, joined the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition government in July of this year.
Ajit has placed a claim to the name and election symbol of the NCP, claiming to have the backing of the majority of the party’s MLAs. After the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, the senior Pawar, who played a key role in the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) under Uddhav Thackeray, said that the BJP won the state by splintering the Shiv Sena. In Goa and Madhya Pradesh, where Congress ruled until March 2020, when the party-led government fell, he said a similar formula was used. According to Pawar, the BJP only managed to maintain power in Gujarat (at the elections of 2022).
In Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and West Bengal, the BJP is not in power. The BJP’s political influence is waning across the rest of the nation, with the exception of Uttar Pradesh and a few other states, he said. Pawar said that the political landscape will be clearer after the elections. “The abuse of authority is the reason the BJP lost power. He continued by saying that the party’s choices do not benefit the average person.
