Just days after Marathwada’s largest city experienced rioting and arson, all eyes will be on Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, formerly Aurangabad, as a rally by the Maha Vikas Aghadi and the “Savarkar Gaurav Yatra” by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena will be organised on Sunday.
Uddhav Thackeray was also challenged by the BJP to sever relations with the Congress for disparaging Savarkar.
The MVA Rally and the Savarkar Gaurav Yatra’s top points are:
1. The MVA gathering will take place on Sunday night at the Marathwada Sanskrutik Mandal grounds. Shiv Sena (UBT) chairman Uddhav Thackeray, senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar, and Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole will be the keynote speakers.
2. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Ambadas Danve urged his party members to gather for the demonstration in a calm and peaceful manner since there may be an effort to incite conflict amongst groups, according to a video that was posted on Twitter.
3. About one mile from the MVA rally location, the BJP’s “Savarkar Gaurav Yatra” will start in a chowk bearing the late Hindutva ideologue’s name.
4. The BJP will visit all three assembly districts in the city and end the march at Ahilyabai Holkar Chowk in honour of Savarkar and to protest the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi’s repeated assaults on him.
5. During the night between Wednesday and Thursday, there was rioting and arson in the Kiradpura neighbourhood of the city. One person was killed, numerous police officers were hurt, and property, including automobiles, were destroyed and set on fire.
6. Four more suspects in the rioting case were detained by the special investigation team (SIT) established by Sambhaji Nagar police commissioner Nikhil Gupta. They are Imran Khan Bismillah Khan, Syed Kalim Syed Salim, Karim Salim Shaikh, and Anwar Khan Kadar Khan. They were brought before the court, which remanded them to police custody until April 3. Twelve people have already been arrested in connection with the investigation.
