A Thane-based guy lost a staggering Rs 37 lakh as a result of a well-known employment fraud. The 32-year-old man’s present job’s contract was about to expire, therefore he was actively looking for a new one.
A story claims that the guy fell victim to a “part-time” employment that asked him to like celebrity Instagram photos.
The guy got a call from an unknown number on WhatsApp after posting his biodata to two online job platforms, offering him the part-time position. The victim was tricked into believing he could get up to Rs. 3,000 per day by like images of famous people who are now active.
The individual received Rs 210 for the likes he had completed and was requested to provide screenshots as evidence of his efforts.
The victim was then connected to a Crypto group on Telegram, a messaging service similar to WhatsApp. He was given assignments by the con artists in this group and requested to make a deposit to purchase cryptocurrencies.
The individual reportedly paid in Rs 9,000 but got Rs 9,980 instead, and this led him to think the Telegram employment offer was real. He intended to invest more money now in order to increase his earnings. He invested Rs 30,000 and made Rs 8,208 in profit. Eventually, he was given a ‘VIP Account’ designation, enabling him to deposit bigger investment amounts.
But when the con artists sought additional cash from him in order to access his gains, their actual motives became apparent. The victim ultimately paid the con artists an enormous sum totaling close to Rs 37 lakh in Indian currency, but received nothing in return.
The guy addressed the police after finally understanding he had been duped, and a case has been formally opened to look into the situation.
Such employment frauds are getting more prevalent. Unsuspecting victims are often approached by con artists who promise them part-time jobs in exchange for doing easy chores like liking YouTube videos or, as in the example cited above, like Instagram photographs. If you are presented with such an offer, ignore it, block the sender, and file a complaint.
