Germany has said it has “taken note” of the Rahul Gandhi court case, days after the US State Department said it was “watching” the case. This has sparked a new political brawl in this country today, with the ruling party accusing the opposition party of “inviting foreign powers” to meddle in domestic affairs.
When a representative for the German Foreign Ministry said, “We have taken notice of the judgement of first instance against Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi as well as the suspension of his parliamentary mandate,” the BJP and the Congress got into a fight.
As far as we know, Mr. Gandhi has the right to appeal the decision. The validity of this judgment and the grounds for the suspension of his appointment will subsequently be made apparent, the spokesman was cited as saying by German state-run media outlet Deutsche Welle.
Digvijaya Singh, a senior member of the Congress, commended Richard Walker, the chief international editor of Deutsche Welle, and the German Foreign Ministry for “taking notice of how democracy is being compromised in India via the persecution of Rahul Gandhi.” Germany anticipates that the proceedings against Rahul Gandhi will be conducted in accordance with “standards of judicial independence and essential democratic values,” the statement said. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju responded to Digivijaya Singh’s remark on Twitter by writing: “Thank you Rahul Gandhi for encouraging foreign forces to intervene in India’s domestic affairs. The Indian judiciary cannot be affected by outside involvement, keep that in mind. Due to the fact that Shri Narendra Modi Ji is our Prime Minister, India won’t accept “foreign interference” any more.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh tweeted: “The Congress firmly believes that India’s democratic processes themselves have to deal with the threats posed to our democracy by Mr. Modi’s assault on our institutions and his politics of vendetta, intimidation, threats, and harassment.” This came as Union Ministers Anurag Thakur and Piyush Goyal along with the BJP IT cell chief received increasing criticism.
The head of the Congress’ media office, Pawan Khera, criticized Rijiju for his remarks, saying: “Mr. Rijiju, why deviate from the core issue? The problem is that the Prime Minister is unable to respond to Rahul Gandhi’s inquiries over Adani.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Foreign Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that no foreign official had brought up Rahul Gandhi’s exclusion from the Lok Sabha, which was a result of a statute that the Congress leader “supported” in the past.
Rahul is threatened with legal action by Lalit Modi.
‘Scamsters’ defending the PM: Cong
In a series of tweets, the former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi threatened to sue Rahul in the UK for his statement about the “Modi surname” and lashed out at the Congress for calling him a “fugitive of justice.” The Congress fired back, claiming “global scamsters” were now defending the prime minister. Would pressure be used on Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi, Vijay Mallya, and other businesspeople to file a case against Rahul Gandhi, said Congressman Pawan Khera? ”
