Early on Saturday morning, the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) and Mangalagiri Tadepalli Municipal Corporation (MTMC) demolished the Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party’s (YSRCP) under-construction office building. The YSRCP responded to the news by claiming that it marked the “beginning of vendetta politics.”
According to The Hindu, the building was situated on 870.40 square metres of purportedly illegally occupied land in R.S. No. 202-A-1 in the boatyard compound of Seethanagaram in the Tadepalli Mandal of Guntur district.
“The TDP engages in politics of vengeance. Even though the YSRCP had filed a challenge against the AP CRDA’s (Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority) preliminary measures in the High Court the day before, the demolition nonetheless went ahead. According to news agency ANI, the party stated that “the court had ordered a halt to any demolition activity.”
The Andhra Pradesh High Court received a writ petition on Friday from M. Seshagiri Rao, the district president of the YSRCP Guntur, requesting that the court direct the state government, CRDA, and MTMC to refrain from taking any further action against the building until the hearing is concluded.
“In its plea, it said that the YSRCP’s response to the CRDA about the provisional order on June 10, 2024, vide File No. MAU61-DP0VIJ (UAC)/25/2024-DP, was unfair, illegal, and against the Constitution, as well as going against the principles of natural justice.” As a result, it directed the CRDA not to demolish the structures and to pass whatever other order or orders that the Court may deem appropriate, just, and proper in the case.”
The under-construction office was demolished in defiance of the high court’s order, according to a statement from the YSRCP, which referred to the incident as contempt of court.
“Using excavators and bulldozers, this unprecedented action—the first party office demolition in the state’s history—started at approximately 5:30 am.”
It went on, “The YSRCP’s attorney forwarded the court’s order to the CRDA Commissioner, ordering a halt to any demolition activity.” Nevertheless, the CRDA carried out the demolition, which is considered to be in contempt of court. Before being demolished, the building was ready for a slab. The CRDA’s disobedience of the High Court’s order could now come under closer examination by the law.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and state chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, according to former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, is taking political vendettas too far.
“Like a dictator, he had bulldozers demolish the nearly completed YSR Congress Party central office in Tadepalli,” Reddy wrote in a post on X. He ignored the directives from the High Court. The state has entirely lost all sense of fairness and law. Chandrababu is shedding blood in the wake of the violent episodes that occurred after the elections and is using this incident to convey a violent message about the nature of administration for the next five years. The YSR Congress Party will not exhibit fear or yield to these threats or acts of retaliation. For the people, by the people, and with the people, we shall fight fiercely. I implore every democratic person in the nation to denounce Chandrababu’s transgressions.
