In Thane, Maharashtra, a group of five individuals, including the mother of a 20-day-old baby and a 61-year-old doctor, has been arrested for their involvement in an attempt to sell the infant. Prompted by a tip-off, the police initiated a sting operation to expose the illegal activity. During the operation, the doctor, operating at her hospital, made an offer to sell the baby to an undercover customer for a sum of Rs 7 lakh. However, the law enforcement authorities intervened and apprehended the doctor while she was in the process of collecting the money.
Aside from the doctor, the other suspects involved in the case comprise two women from Nashik, a man from Belgaum, and the baby’s mother, who is also from Nashik. The accused individuals have been charged under both the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, which are intended to safeguard the welfare and well-being of children.
As the investigation unfolds, the authorities are delving deeper into the child-selling racket and scrutinizing the activities of the arrested individuals. It is an ongoing process to ensure that justice is served and to uncover any potential connections or networks involved in this illicit operation.
