Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at a luncheon sponsored by the State Department on Friday that everyone believes that connections and goodwill between India and the US should continue to grow after back-to-back events on his historic US visit.
The prime minister also made a toast to the relationship between India and the US and wished both countries’ inhabitants happiness and peace.
PM Modi was invited to the luncheon and given a podium exchange with US Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
In his opening remarks, PM Modi thanked Harris and Blinken for the warm welcome and kind comments. He then cited various instances of the strong people-to-people links between India and the US.
“I took part in a lot of meetings during the last three days. One aspect of each of these encounters was the same. Everyone agreed that the US and Indian peoples’ friendship and cooperation should grow, according to PM Modi.
PM Modi mentioned the following in his speech.
“I want to congratulate Secretary Blinken & VP Kamala Harris for this beautiful welcome. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind remarks. I’m thrilled to be here with you today at the State Department, Prime Minister Modi stated.
“I took part in a lot of meetings during the last three days. One aspect of each of these encounters was the same. Everyone agreed that the US and Indian peoples’ friendship and cooperation should grow, he added.
The PM proceeded to discuss instances of relationships between the two nations by mentioning the mother of VP Harris, Dr. Shyamala Gopalan, who immigrated to the United States in 1958 and how, despite being far from her own country, she kept in touch with her family via letters.
She never cut her connections to India… Despite being hundreds of kilometers away, India was near to her, Modi added.
Modi said that Kamala has carried on her mother’s tradition in such a manner that she is now a source of inspiration for many women all over the globe.
He remarked, “Your accomplishments are a great inspiration for women in India and across the globe, as well as the US.
“Your assistance in enhancing our strategic alliance has been outstanding….Our inter-personal relationships are what make the India-US partnership sing so sweetly, he observed.
At the Hi-Tech Handshake event at the White House before to the luncheon, PM Modi and US President Joe Biden met CEOs of leading US and Indian technology businesses.
Prominent individuals like Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Indian tycoons including Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra were seen in attendance at the event.
