A railway official claimed that on Friday evening, certain trains on one route were impacted by the derailing of two wagons of an empty freight train at the Western Railway’s Vasai Road station yard.
Around 5:15 p.m., two wagons of an empty goods train derailed at the Vasai Road yard; Sumit Thakur, the head public relations officer for the Western Railway, informed PTI that no one was hurt in the incident.
He said that the derailed train was being repaired and that suburban local train traffic was unaffected by the incident, which happened on the Diva-Vasai train line.
Railway authorities said that although the main line remained clean, the incident hampered the passage of certain trains on the Diva-Vasai route.
Meanwhile, over 250 suburban train services were canceled due to continuing construction on a new route, causing severe congestion at many major stations in the morning, including Borivali and Andheri.
Starting on October 7, the Western Railway has set aside a certain block of time to finish construction on the new sixth line connecting the stations of Khar and Goregaon.
More than 2,500 suburban trains are scheduled to be canceled between October 27 and November 6.
