They plummet faster the higher they go. Reverberating words for India’s top-ranked player Sumit Nagal, who was eliminated from the Australian Open in four sets by China’s Juncheng Shang.
In four sets, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, and 6-4, Shang defeated Nagal to seal the victory and advance to the third round.
Nagal was determined to create an impression, so he started out well, winning the first set 6-2.
Within the second set, Shang replied right away and led 4-1. Even though Nagal tried his hardest to tie the match, Shang made sure he kept the advantage and won the second set 6-3.
In a closely fought third set, both players were focusing and trying to win. In the first set, Nagal had a slim advantage, but Shang made a strong comeback to even the score at five games to one.
After a close battle, Shang defeated Nagal 7–5 in the third set after taking the lead from him.
However, Nagal never gave up as he battled his opponent head-to-head in the fourth set, exchanging punches and games to keep the score close at 3-3.
However, Shang finally showed that she was marginally superior than Nagal and declared a game, set, match to win both the set, 6-4, and the match against Nagal.
