N Chandrababu Naidu, the leader of the Telugu Desam Party, was brought before a court in this city on Sunday morning under heavy security, one day after being detained in connection with an alleged case of corruption.
Siddarth Luthra, an attorney for the Supreme Court, is working with a group of attorneys to defend the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
The TDP cadre and a number of senior TDP officials assembled at the court complex.
After a 10-hour questioning at the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headquarters of the CID at Kunchanapalli here, he was transported to Government General Hospital in Vijayawada for medical testing at 3:40 in the morning.
Naidu was hauled back to the SIT office after the tests, which took around 50 minutes, even though it was anticipated that he would be sent straight to a local court.
According to TDP spokeswoman Pattabhi Ram Kommareddy, the TDP chief’s wife Nara Bhuvaneswari, son Nara Lokesh, and other family members were waiting at the ACB Court.
“We anticipated that he would be brought before the court. However, they returned him to the SIT office. Lokesh and Bhuvaneswari were waiting at the court when the convoy abruptly moved in the direction of the SIT office, according to Kommareddy.
They were shocked and perplexed, he added, wondering whether Naidu would appear in court before 24 hours had passed since his detention.
After a Saturday morning police operation at Gnanapuram in Nandyala, Naidu was taken into custody in connection with the suspected Skill Development Corporation fraud. Around six in the morning, the CID detained him outside a marriage hall where his trailer was parked.
The state exchequer is said to have suffered a loss of Rs 300 crore as a result of the scandal. The TDP leader has been identified as the case’s “principal conspirator.”
In the meanwhile, the TDP urged its followers to observe a one-day fast on Sunday in each Assembly district in opposition to Naidu’s detention.
