On Wednesday, the Congress party requested that the Election Commission of India (ECI) step in to stop what they described as the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) using investigative agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for raids during the assembly elections.
“This is a really significant problem because democracy and the republic depend on fair and equal playing fields. A republic and a democracy cannot be secure without these level playing fields, Congressman Abhishek Singhvi said during a news conference on Wednesday night in New Delhi.
“We have asked the ECI for protection and asked them to act on this issue, as the BJP is attacking us on the Chhattisgarh issue and elsewhere on a daily basis,” Singhvi added.
Bhupesh Baghel, the chief minister of Chhattisgarh, became involved in the Mahadev betting app case after a suspect, Shubham Soni, claimed to have given the CM Rs. 508 crore to establish his gambling enterprise in Dubai. Baghel has refuted the claims, claiming that the BJP and ED are attempting to protect the app’s developers.
“I have already said that the BJP has prioritized ED and IT since they are aware of their loss in the Chhattisgarh elections. Baghel said earlier this week that “the ED has been playing the lead role in it.”
The ED has been conducting searches in relation to the case over the last several weeks while looking into the Chhattisgarh betting app syndicate.
Singhvi stated that the federal government is now interfering at the BJP’s request in the lead-up to and during the assembly election, while having shown little interest in the Mahadev betting app issue when it first came to light eighteen months ago.
“The Chattisgarh police began their probe into the Mahadev App almost eighteen months ago. Almost 500 people were taken into custody, and hundreds of computers, cell phones, and bank accounts were found. The chief minister even issued demands for the arrest of specific individuals. The national government takes no action throughout this whole period, according to Singhvi.
The IT Minister stated that he only recently banned the app because the Chattisgarh government never asked him to do so. Who should decide whether the Central government has the authority to do so in the ministry or not? “And now suddenly, in the last week, we are seeing new statements and new charge sheets every day.”
Singhvi went on to say that the only reason the BJP and the ED have suddenly been active is that “the BJP knows they’ve lost the Chattisgarh elections.”

Singhvi informed the media, “BJP is now making a frantic attempt for itself in the final phase, as is well known in Chhattisgarh.

Twenty seats were up for election in the first phase of the 90-member Chhattisgarh assembly elections on Tuesday. Voting in the second phase, which is set for November 17, will cover the remaining 70 divisions.
