In a worrying event, a mob launched an assault on the Chief Minister’s secretariat in Tura town, Western Meghalaya, on Monday, injuring at least five police officers. Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister, was in the office conversing with members of the groups Achik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) and Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC), who wanted Tura to be designated as the state’s winter capital.

Tire burning events have also been reported at various locations across the town, which has added to the already high tension and security worries.
