The testimony of a Congress politician who filed a defamation lawsuit against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly making lewd comments about party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi has been recorded by a local court.
Sarma allegedly made the comments while running for the Uttarakhand Assembly in 2022.
In a hearing on May 15, complainant Ganesh Upadhyay, a representative of the Uttarakhand Congress, taped his testimony in front of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (3rd) Nadeem Ahmad.
He said that the Assam CM’s comments harmed the feelings of the civil society.
Upadhyay claims that Sarma remarked, “Did we ever ask Rahul Gandhi to give proof of who his father is,” during a campaign rally in Kichcha on February 11, 2022.
Rahul Gandhi was criticized by the chief minister of Assam for voicing concerns over the 2016 surgical strikes by India in Pakistan.
On June 3, the case’s next hearing will take place.
