In order to identify friendly troops during counterterrorism operations along the LoC and hinterlands and to secure all GPS-enabled equipment from jamming, two projects are almost finished, according to authorities.
In a cooperative effort, IIT Jammu and CST Advanced Systems Private Limited are designing and developing anti-GPS jamming and Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) devices as two of their seven significant projects.
“We are working on six to seven projects in cooperation with IIT Jammu. Two of these projects are nearing completion, Colonel (Ret.) Anil J. Alex, general manager of CST Advanced Systems, said on Friday to PTI.
An anti-GPS jamming gadget, he said, is one of the two technologies nearing completion and would “save our drones, vehicles, and other GPS enabled devices from the enemy” jamming them.
According to authorities, the anti-GPS jamming gadget is a compact, lightweight, low-powered device that can be modified to defend any navigation system.
The IFF gadget, which will assist the Army in locating its own personnel on the battlefield during counterinsurgency or counterterrorism operations, is the second project that Colonel (Retd) Alex stated is almost finished.
“RF (Radio Frequency) mesh is how it operates. It works in every situation, including inclement weather or areas with poor visibility, day or night. In any of these circumstances, we can locate our men, the man continued.
According to the authorities, the IFF gadget uses GPS data, sensors, and RF communications to identify friendly troops on the integrated and complicated battlefield.
In traditional trans-International Border (IB), Line of Control (LoC), and counter-terrorism operations during raids, patrols, ambushes, and specialized operations, it is intended to identify its own troops, they said.
The IFF gadget unit, according to the authorities, may be placed or affixed to people, cars, tanks, drones, and helicopters.
According to Colonel (Retd) Alex, the CST creates and develops communication and security systems for the military.
Since 2018, we have been providing them with equipment, he said.
