The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated an inquiry into the alleged scam related to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and has taken action against the former Collector and Commissioner of Agriculture, Sunil Chavan. Notices have been issued to Sunil Chavan, who served as the Collector of Sambhajinagar from 2015 to 2017, for his involvement in the investigation.
The ED’s investigation focuses on possible irregularities in the tendering process for housing construction under the PMAY scheme. Initial findings indicate that ineligible companies were awarded tenders, and there were instances of collusion among bidders.
Furthermore, it has come to light that the constructed houses did not adhere to the required specifications, resulting in significant financial losses for the government. The role of Sunil Chavan, as the former Collector and Commissioner of Agriculture, is being probed to ascertain his connection to these irregularities and whether he derived any personal benefits from the scam.
The ED has summoned Sunil Chavan for questioning but he has yet to present himself before the investigating agency. Besides Chavan, other officials involved in the scam are also under scrutiny. In addition, the ED is investigating the companies that were awarded the tenders as part of its comprehensive probe.
In the near future, the Enforcement Directorate is expected to file a chargesheet regarding this scam, presenting its findings and evidence related to the case.
