Even though anger is only one of many emotions that children experience, how we as adults support them as they go through each emotion has a significant impact.
We become parents and realize our triggers stem from childhood trauma, according to a proverb. And while we’re trying to recover and get through it, we re-traumatize our children.
Anger is one of those emotions that we can learn to control from our parents and our environment, and our children may learn to control their anger by seeing our actions and words.
The phrase “Kids are through us and not for us” has to be drilled into our minds and hearts. Kids provide us a wonderful chance to see a baby’s (or blank slate’s) development into a perceptive, emotionally intelligent human. Change is an inevitable and natural process. Although we cannot stop it, we can regulate it.
This holds true for everything, even parenting children. Children can be shaped, and results may be managed.
Kids feel all the same emotions that adults do, including joy, sorrow, worry, anger, aggression, love, and empathy. All emotions are normal for humans. When we approach all emotions carefully, neither a negative feeling nor a happy emotion exist.
As adults, we have learned how to deal with each feeling. The following variables affect how we respond to any motions:
Up to the age of five, you were instructed on how to manage that feeling.
how you were handled as a result of expressing that feeling.
influence of your surroundings and society.
If you were taught to ask for assistance when you needed it as a youngster, you will feel comfortable doing it as an adult.
If you experienced guilt as a youngster for needing assistance with tasks you did not know how to do or could not complete, you will experience shame going forward.
If you saw your parents reject aid when you were a youngster, you will also reject help and eventually burn out.
It all comes down to being aware of our feelings, how we express them, and how we respond emotionally. When managed carefully, anger is one of those emotions that may be helpful to children. It can help them see their own failings, which will enable them to develop and succeed in life. So, what can be done to assist children in navigating through anger or what concerns need to be addressed to raise children who are consciously aware of the feeling of rage?
Frequently used abbreviations include “old method” and “mindful method.” In front of the youngster, recognize your own emotions and give them the appropriate names:
OM: When an adult gets angry, there is a pre-programmed reaction (a coping strategy for each sensation) that the adult would do without recognizing it, such as yelling, screaming, or hitting.
MM: An adult may use these phrases to express his wrath to a youngster. Can we talk later? I’m just feeling upset right now and I don’t want to respond to it. Or I could lose control of my emotions because I’m furious. As soon as you’re calm, pardon me and I’ll simply leave the room.
The youngster will be able to recognize the feeling as a result, making it simpler for him to express himself later on when he feels similar. The youngster is aware of what is going on with the adult and will emulate this behavior both as a child and as an adult.
Remove the emotion from the subject, situation, or event:
OM: I am upset with you because you did XYZ and you never listen because you yell.
MM: I’m upset because of my emotional sensitivity, not because the other person, situation, or event is awful. Yes, there will be some awful situations, but learn to separate yourself from the person, situation, and event, to calm yourself, and then consider what can be done to resolve it.
When children are dealing with difficult emotions, breakdowns and tantrums occur. At that point, all they need is a patient adult to guide them through the crisis.
As a result, the only way to control children’s wrath is to control parents’ emotions. Even when parents make an effort to be conscious and pay attention to their environment, there are certain psychiatric situations where children are unable to control or regulate their emotions.
