Five workers die from toxic fumes while cleaning septic tank in Maharashtra’s Parbhani district : Tragedy struck in Maharashtra’s Parbhani district as five workers lost their lives after inhaling toxic fumes while cleaning a septic tank on Thursday. The incident occurred in the Bhaucha Tanda area and was reported to the Sonpeth Police Station. According to officials, the workers, who were labourers, were cleaning the septic tank on a farm when they started feeling suffocated and unwell.
All six workers were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where five of them were declared dead upon arrival. Another worker was in serious condition and admitted to the hospital for further treatment. The incident is being investigated, and an accidental death case has been registered at the Sonpeth police station.
This tragedy highlights the dangers associated with hazardous cleaning of sewer and septic tanks. In July 2022, the Lok Sabha was informed by the government that 188 people had died while undertaking such hazardous cleaning tasks since 2019. It is essential to take necessary safety precautions and ensure that workers are not exposed to such hazardous conditions in the future.
