Gujarat Titans earned their first points of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season by defeating the four-time league champion Chennai Super Kings on Friday, March 31 at Narendra Modi Stadium. By defeating MS Dhoni’s team by five wickets, Hardik Pandya’s team helped GT earn their first points and take the lead in the IPL 2023 points standings.
Gujarat Titans defeated CSK with four balls remaining thanks to Shubman Gill’s 63 runs for the home team, who also assisted in their successful pursuit of the 179-run mark. The victory also meant that CSK had been beaten by Pandya’s Titans in each of their previous three games.
GT defeated the Yellow Army twice in the previous season, and in IPL 2023, they started their championship defense off on the right foot.
Ruturaj Gaikwad had previously scored 92 runs in 50 balls to help CSK set up a challenging total, but it wasn’t enough as the reigning champions took the opening two points.
With a net run rate of plus 0.514 after the victory, the holders go ahead at the top.
IPL point totals for 2023:
The Yellow Army might have surpassed the 200-run threshold had the CSK opening received the appropriate assistance from the opposite end. Rashid Khan (10*) and Rahul Tewatia (15*) helped his team over the finish line despite the Titans’ late collapse, which limited them to 178.
Pandya had won the toss and decided to bowl first, which turned out to be the perfect choice as Mohammed Shami quickly dismissed Devon Conway for one.
Alzarri Joseph, Shami, and Rashid each took two wickets, and Rashid was eventually named Player of the Match for his all-around performance.
Gill scored 63 in the 179-point comeback, Wriddhiman scored 25, Sai Sudharsan scored 22, and Vijay Shankar added another 27.
