Imphal: In an attempt to address the recent outbreak of violence in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has pledged support to the affected individuals and promised educational arrangements for students.
During a press conference, Mr Singh made several significant announcements, ensuring housing for those displaced and educational facilities for students, as hundreds of people are still residing in relief camps following the violence. According to official records, nearly 47,000 people have been evacuated from the violence-stricken areas, with many losing their homes in the turmoil.
Biren Singh assured the people that the state government would stand united with them and commence the construction of new homes. He stated, “We are planning to build approximately 4,000 houses for those who have been displaced due to the violence. Although the detailed plan is yet to be finalized, we aim to construct two-room sets for these houses.”
Recognizing the impact on education, particularly for children in the ongoing tense environment in Manipur, the Chief Minister emphasized that all necessary assistance would be provided to ensure that education remains a priority. “We are making arrangements to send those displaced from Churachandpur, currently residing in camps in Imphal, to schools and colleges here in Imphal,” stated Mr Singh.
Numerous individuals have been displaced from their homes and are currently residing in temporary shelters within the camps. Many of them have also lost important documents, including their Aadhaar cards. Since Aadhaar is linked to various central and state welfare schemes, the state government has decided to facilitate the reissuance of Aadhaar cards. “The government will assist individuals in obtaining their reissued Aadhaar cards if they have been misplaced or lost during the violence. Arrangements for obtaining Aadhaar will be made directly at the shelter camps,” announced the Chief Minister.
Taking into account the recent situation, the Manipur government has extended the internet ban in the state until June 15.
