According to public works minister Vikramaditya Singh, efforts are being made to clear up traffic on this area’s Circular Road and identify any portions that see excessive traffic during peak hours.
Along with the local MLA Harish Janartha, representatives of the district government, and the municipal corporation, Singh drove around Circular Road, also known as Cart Road, starting at the state secretariat.
He said that as Shimla is the Himachal state’s summer capital, enabling efficient transportation is very necessary. In a statement released here on Thursday, he said that attempts will be made to clear the traffic bottlenecks in accordance with the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s instructions.
A committee will be established to oversee the whole process after selecting locations for the Circular Road’s enlargement and acquiring the necessary property, he added. He said that the parking lot development, which had been solely on paper for the previous five years, will be accelerated.
Other significant routes will also be made traffic-friendly, he said, adding that the work to keep Shimla free of traffic jams has been started. Due to several bottlenecks, Shimla is especially susceptible to traffic congestion. The issue worsens and gets severe during the tourist season as more commuters become delayed on the roadways.
