Former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray questioned the event’s administration when 11 individuals died from heatstroke during the award ceremony in Navi Mumbai’s Khargar.
According to the NDTV article, Thackeray said that the incident in which 11 people died from heatstroke wasn’t adequately handled.
“We have met the individuals receiving therapy. I spoke with perhaps four or five patients. Two of them had grave ailments. The event was poorly prepared. Who is going to look into this incident? after seeing the patients who had heatstroke during the incident, Thackeray added.
After eleven patients passed away from heatstroke during the Maharashtra Bhushan Award ceremony in Khargar, Thackeray, his son Aditya Thackeray, and NCP leader Ajit Pawar went to the MGM Kamothe Hospital to assess the situation.
Eknath Shinde, the state’s chief minister, had already announced Rs 5 lakh as compensation for the deceased’s kin.
Shinde also said that the state will cover all medical costs for everyone receiving treatment.
“Some Shri members had to be transported to the hospital due to heatstroke during the Dr. Appasaheb Dharmadhikari Maharashtra Bhushan award ceremony held at Kharghar today. Unfortunately, 11 of them passed away while receiving treatment; this is a very unexpected and painful incident, and we pay tribute to the deceased Shri members. We feel their families’ sorrow with them. I hurried to the MGM Hospital in Kamothe as soon as I learned about this tragedy and chatted with the medical staff as well as family members who are receiving treatment there. The article cited Maharashtra CM Shinde as saying, “The administration has directed that the families of the members who died in this unfortunate incident will be given five lakh rupees each and that the entire medical expenses of the members undergoing treatment will be borne by the government.”
According to the report, other attendees of the event who had heatstroke were also brought to Tata Hospital in Kharghar.
