On Friday evening, a foreign visitor from Spain was allegedly gang-raped in the Dumka region of Jharkhand, according to the police. According to the Pakistan Telecommunications Institute (PTI), the event took place at Kurumahat, which is located in the Hansdiha police station area. The tourist couple was spending the night in a makeshift tent.
In a statement to the news agency, Jarmundi Sub Divisional Police Officer Santosh Kumar stated that additional information regarding the occurrence will be shared at a later time.
It was alleged that the pair had come from Bangladesh on a two-wheeler and were planning to travel to Nepal through the state of Bihar next.
According to the story, which cited an official who wished to remain anonymous, seven to eight young people from the local community were involved in the criminal activity, all of whom were detained. The official stated that there is currently a manhunt going on for the remaining suspects. The sufferer is currently being treated at a nearby medical facility.
Banna Gupta, the minister of health for the state, stated that he was not aware of all of the circumstances of the occurrence, but he pledged that the perpetrators would face severe consequences under the law.
According to what he said to the press, “I do not know all the complete facts of this incident; however, the government is committed to taking strict action against all those evildoers who commit such a crime against any of our sisters, whether they are Indian or foreigner, within the law.”
The BJP proposes stringent measures.
Babulal Marandi, the head of the Jharkhand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressed his reaction to the occurrence by saying, “If incidents of this nature are going to occur with tourists from other countries, then who will visit Jharkhand?”
Caste-based postings, according to Nishikant Dubey, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), were the cause of the gangrape of the Spanish tourist.
“Neither Adivasis nor Dalits are safe in the state. Now this has become an international matter.”
I would like to request Chief Minister Champai Soren to prioritise maintaining peace and order throughout the state. The occurrence of incidents of this nature is likely to be frequent if postings are made based on any caste structure.
BJP Member of Legislative Assembly Anant Ojha referred to the occurrence as a “stain of the state” and a demonstration of the failing state of law and order.
Even people from other countries are not safe in this state, which is a clear indication of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Soon, the police should take action, and the government should also take notice of the situation and take stringent measures against individuals who engage in anarchist behaviour. According to Ojha, who spoke to ANI, “this government has completely failed.”
In a related note, the alleged criminal act took place on the same day that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in the state of Jharkhand, where he had voiced his grave worry regarding the state’s law and order situation as well as the issue of extortion.
