A case of love jihad has come to light in Mumbai. A 22-year-old girl resident of Mira Bhayander town lodged a complaint at Naya Nagar police station against her boyfriend Amin Azam Shaikh, her mother Reshma Azam Shaikh, Qazi Muftin Ismail, Zariab Saleem Sayyed and an unknown person, all residents of Naya Nagar Complex, Mira Road. A case has been registered under IPC sections 376(2)(n), 366, 323, 504, 406 and 34. The victim girl alleges that Amin Sheikh, along with his mother and other accused, not only tortured her physically but also mentally tortured her.
The girl has alleged that she was converted by intimidation and fear of making her objectionable video viral. The Naya Nagar police registered a case on the basis of the statement of the girl and arrested all the accused including Amin and got involved in the investigation.
The victim girl has said in a statement to the Naya Nagar police that in 2022 she met a boy named Shahbaz in Borivali. Shahbaz would often come to meet her near Mira Road station, where she used to go for computer classes. Shahbaz had introduced the victim’s girl to Amin Sheikh. The victim told, “Amin Sheikh expressed his love in front of me on 16 February 2022 after meeting for a few days. When I refused him, he took out the knife and said that he loves me very much. If I didn’t say yes, he would commit suicide by stabbing himself, after which I got scared and I told him I love you. A few days later, Amin took me to his home and introduced me to his mother and father.”
A few days later, Amin called the victim to his home, saying that his brother’s daughter was ill, and had to go to the hospital to see her. When the victim reached Amin’s house, there was no one there except Amin. Taking advantage of this, Amin forcibly had physical relations with me by showing me the fear of committing suicide. After that, on 21 June 2022, Amin came outside the victim’s house with a car and called her to meet him. Two more boys were sitting in the car with Amin.
The girl told, “As soon as I sat in car, a boy told me that we have been sent from the mosque to bring you, today you are going to convert, after that I was taken to a Qazi in Bandra, where Qazi changed my name to Rahima and took my signature on three stamp papers of 100 rupees. The next day when I went to Amin’s house, his mother on seeing me said – why have you brought her home, when your first wife is present in the house. Then Amin told me that he was already married. And the girl whom he introduced to her as her brother’s child, is his.”
The victim told that after this the atrocities of Amin and his family members increased. Amin used to keep her forcibly locked in the house, from where she was released once the police received a complaint. Now in this case Naya Nagar police has registered a case and arrested the accused and started investigating the matter.
