The Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHCAA) has decided in unanimity to abstain from court hearings on July 8 in opposition to the three new criminal legislations that will go into effect.
In a resolution approved by MHCAA on Friday, all members were asked to abide by the ruling and abstain from all court-related activities on July 8. It underlined how crucial their cooperation and support are to this initiative’s success.
“This collective action underscores our strong opposition to the changes that we believe undermine the principles of justice and fairness in our legal system. It is crucial that we stand united in this protest to make our voices heard and effect meaningful change,” the resolution said.
The three new criminal laws, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, replaced the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), the Indian Evidence Act, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on July 1.
