According to an official on Friday, a farmer in Maharashtra’s Pune area reported the theft of 400 kg of tomatoes to the police, whose prices had risen dramatically nationwide in recent weeks.
The farmer reported to the authorities that the theft cost him close to Rs 20,000. In some places, the crimson, juicy culinary staple sells for between Rs 100 and Rs 200 per kilo.
According to the complainant Arun Dhome, he picked tomatoes from his field on Sunday and transported them by car to his house in the Shirur tehsil with the assistance of laborers.
According to Dhome, he intended to sell the tomatoes at the marketplace. On Monday morning, however, Dhome found 20 cartons of the priceless produce gone, totaling 400 kilograms.
According to the official, “Dhome went to the Shirur police station and lodged a complaint after realizing that his tomatoes had been stolen.” Senior police officers confirmed that they have opened an investigation and are looking into the situation.
