NCP leader Supriya Sule has given a notice of breach of privilege to the Lok Sabha Speaker against BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri. Sule has taken this step in connection with the use of derogatory words against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Kunwar Danish Ali in the Lok Sabha. Sule gave notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for breach of privilege against the member of the ruling party. Supriya Sule has also put up a notice of breach of her privilege on social media. Sule, in her letter to Birla, the MP from Baramati, Maharashtra, has said that Lok Sabha MP Ramesh Bidhuri made some statements during the session on September 21, which were in contempt of the Lok Sabha and a violation of the privilege of the House.
Sule has said that BJP MP Bidhuri also highlighted the unparliamentary and derogatory words against Ali and said that needless to say, the said statements were shameful. Precedents and tradition show that the Privileges Committee has the authority to investigate questions of breach of privilege over statements made inside the House. Sule has said that the statements made by Bidhuri are prima facie a breach of privilege as they undermine the dignity of the Lok Sabha. …I request you to intervene in this matter and refer this question of privilege to the Privileges Committee.
Bidhuri, MP from South Delhi, used derogatory language against Ali while participating in the discussion on Chandrayaan-3 mission in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. His comments were later expunged from the record. Earlier in the day, Ali had written a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker to refer his case to the Privileges Committee and also urged him to order a probe into the matter. BJP has even issued a show cause notice to the MP for using unparliamentary words. Bidhuri’s remarks sparked outrage and opposition leaders demanded strict action against him. Several opposition leaders condemned Bidhuri’s language against BSP MPs in the Lok Sabha and demanded his suspension. Earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had warned against Bidhuri’s objectionable comments in the House and asked her not to behave like this in future.
