On Monday, CM Eknath Shinde advised Wayanad MP to remain in the Andamans prison like VD Savarkar, a day after former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray warned Rahul Gandhi from criticizing Savarkar.
Rahul Gandhi’s remarks upset Maharashtra’s people. Shinde told reporters on Monday that Rahul Gandhi should spend a day in the Andamans prison. He declared state-wide Savarkar Gaurav yatra.
Shinde stated, “We will organize Savarkar Gaurav yatra across the state to tell about Savarkar’s sacrifice.
Maharashtra CM also stated criticizing Savarkar insults the nation.
Rahul Gandhi insulted Veer Savarkar. Rahul Gandhi insults VD Savarkar and our democracy overseas. He continued, “insulting Savarkar insults the nation.”
Shinde criticized Uddhav Thackeray for aligning the Sena with the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), saying, “Those who used to say earlier they won’t tolerate the insult of Savarkar were wearing black bands in support of Rahul Gandhi. It’s unfortunate. They (Uddhav Thackeray) won’t accept Rahul Gandhi’s statements. Would they shoe them like Balasaheb Thackeray?”
Rahul Gandhi, who was ousted from Lok Sabha last week after a defamation judgement, denied being Savarkar.
Rahul declared in a news conference on Saturday that he was Gandhi, not Savarkar, and Gandhi did not apologize.
Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from Parliament after the Surat court convicted him of criminal defamation for his “Modi surname” remark.
Thackeray had also urged Rahul Gandhi to not disrespect Vinayak Savarkar saying that belittling Savarkar will cause “cracks” in the opposition coalition.
“Savarkar endured horrific torture in the Andaman cellular prison for 14 years. Just reading the hardships. A sacrifice. “We won’t accept Savarkar’s disrespect,” Uddhav stated.
“Veer Savarkar is our God, and any disrespect towards him will not be tolerated. He said, “We will fight, but disrespecting our Gods is not acceptable.”
Shiv Sena (UBT section), an ally of Congress and the NCP in the state, boycotted Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s Monday dinner for like-minded Opposition parties at his house.
