The Maharashtra government, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has introduced a new scheme called Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Yojana, modeled after the central government’s PM-Kisan scheme. This initiative aims to support farmers in the state by providing them with financial assistance.
Under the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Yojana, over one crore farmers in Maharashtra will receive an additional annual sum of Rs 6,000 from the state government. This amount will be in addition to the Rs 6,000 already provided to farmers through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, a scheme implemented by the central government.
Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, confirmed this decision after the approval of the scheme during a Cabinet meeting. Furthermore, Devendra Fadnavis, who serves as both the Deputy Chief Minister and the state’s finance minister, highlighted that more than one crore farmers in Maharashtra would benefit from this program.
It is worth noting that the total financial assistance for farmers in Maharashtra will amount to Rs 12,000 per year. The existing PM Kisan Yojana, which commenced in 2019, already provides Rs 6,000 annually to farmers across the country. This assistance is disbursed in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each. Over 10 crore farmers throughout India currently benefit from the PM Kisan Yojana.
