A shocking incident of road rage has come to light from Maharashtra’s Goregaon in Mumbai, where a 28-year-old man, who had an argument with a dumper driver, was dragged for 400 meters while hanging from a window. He fell on the road after the dumper hit the speed breaker and died a day later in the hospital. The Goregaon police have arrested the dumper driver on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The victim, Narendra Pawar, worked as a decorator and lived in Goregaon with his ailing father and pregnant sister. Narendra had celebrated his birthday just a day before the road rage incident.
It is being told that on Monday morning, Narendra Pawar along with friend Yash Khopre made a plan to drink tea in Jogeshwari by a motorcycle. At around 5 am in Goregaon, Khopre asked to fill petrol and asked Narendra to wait near Sadguru restaurant on SV Road. After some time, he picked up Narendra from there and took a U-turn to go home. At the same time, a dumper driver also took a U-turn and started abusing both of them, which enraged Narendra.
Pawar asks Khopre to block the way of the dumper with his motorcycle so that he can teach him a lesson. According to Khopre, ‘It seemed that there was an argument between Narendra and the dumper driver even when he was filling petrol in the bike. While abusing, Khopre had also shot some videos of the dumper driver. After putting the bike on the side, Pawar got on the driver’s side of the vehicle and confronted the driver over abusing him. Meanwhile, the driver suddenly started the vehicle.
Khopre thought that his friend Pawar must have come down by then. Khopre said, ‘I did not see that Narendra was hanging from the window. His hand was probably caught in the window. I followed the dumper on my motorcycle. The dumper driver dragged Pawar for about 400 meters and then hit the divider, seriously injuring his legs.’
Police said that when the speed of the dumper slowed down on the speed breaker, Pawar jumped and fell on the road due to the shock. At that time, Pawar was bleeding profusely from his head, nose and legs, following which he was taken to the Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari. When his health did not improve there, he was taken to Sion Hospital, where he died on Tuesday. The Goregaon police registered an FIR late on Tuesday night and arrested the dumper driver Parmatmaprasad Sahni (46). Pawar’s body was brought home after the post-mortem. His family said that Narendra was the sole breadwinner and what would happen to the family now? The victim’s family has demanded the harshest punishment for the accused driver Sahni.
