Ameera Shah is a pioneer in her own way as the managing director and promoter of Metropolis Healthcare. As Metropolis grew from a single pathology laboratory to a fully integrated worldwide network, the 43-year-old was in charge of it.
Ameera went on to get a degree in Finance from the esteemed University of Texas, Austin after graduating from Mumbai’s HR College of Commerce and Economics.
Ameera began working at Goldman Sachs after finishing her schooling. Ameera was dissatisfied with her employment despite having a prestigious position at one of the largest investment banks in the world.
Dr. Sushil Shah, her father, was a pathologist and the proprietor of a diagnostic laboratory in South Mumbai. She finally returned to India and began working for her father’s pathology company.
Ameera had several difficulties as a young entrepreneur. One of them included dispelling the notion that she was the boss’s daughter. She was able to overcome that obstacle, nevertheless, by displaying incredible tenacity and potent leadership abilities. Ameera understood very early on that Metropolis had to step up its game in terms of creativity and technology if it wanted to become a big player in the diagnostics sector, which was operating in a rapidly shifting technical environment. She spearheaded the effort to implement necessary adjustments and advancements in Metropolis’ tech division.
Ameera further made sure Metropolis set the benchmark for diagnostic precision and user experience.
Under her direction, Metropolis has attracted three rounds of funding from reputable private equity investors and has become India’s top diagnostic facility. Additionally, it is present in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Zambia, and Mauritius.
With nearly 1,500 locations now, Metropolis has generated a net profit of Rs 35.80 crore in only the third quarter of FY23, according to Mint.
With the use of an architecture driven by APIs, Metropolis is currently working to change the pathology sector in India. The business is preparing to focus on Tier II and III cities.
Ameera was recognized as one of Fortune India’s “Fifty Most Powerful Women in Business” and Forbes Asia’s “Asia’s Most Powerful Women in Business” for her business savvy and leadership abilities. Additionally, she was given the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2022 honor.
