Technology dependence has disadvantages, according to Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, who on Saturday brought technology developments to the Indian judiciary. Microsoft stalled a lot of work in various industries.
In this context, he mentioned the July 19 Microsoft outage, which brought down numerous PCs and servers worldwide and caused telecommunications and service paralysis.
He claimed that the disruption almost caused the cancellation of his trip from Delhi to Madurai.
“I am an ardent believer in the benefits of technology,, and just yesterday, we saw the adverse effects of technological dependence. After the Microsoft outage, flights all across the country were cancelled. Numerous flights from Delhi were cancelled, but I think the love of the people of Madurai, which was showered upon me, has ensured my presence amongst all of you today,” said the CJI.
The Chief Justice of India delivered a speech during the 20th anniversary celebration of the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court.
An abrupt Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) that affected a large number of Windows users on Friday caused major disruptions worldwide.
According to reports, however, a recent update from the US-based cybersecurity company Crowdstrike caused the issue rather than Microsoft, as initially believed.
The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) is a critical problem that causes the system to freeze, rendering it inoperable for a while.
The Microsoft outage also negatively impacted the Supreme Court’s live-streaming of a few courtrooms.
Lawyers were compelled to physically travel to the highest court to argue their arguments in the courts where livestreaming was not permitted, and many of them were also forced to request an adjournment of their cases.
Yesterday at 12 pm, CJI Chandrachud concluded his board of cases in preparation for his trip to Madurai.
