Police barred Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activist Avinash Jadhav from entering Mumbra township in Thane district, days after he demanded action from authorities against alleged illegal dargahs and such structures at the foothills of Mumbradevi temple. After MNS chief Raj Thackeray raised the issue of illegal constructions belonging to a particular religion at several places on March 22, Jadhav appealed to the Thane district magistrate to remove illegal dargahs and a mosque located on the foothills of Mumbra.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalwa Division) Vilas Shinde cited possible law and order situation, Mumbra being (communally) sensitive and the month of Ramzan, he implemented Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). According to the order, Jadhav had told the District Magistrate that if no action was taken, a temple of Lord Hanuman would be built near the religious site.
The order also mentioned that political offenses were registered against Jadhav under the Thane Police Commissionerate. As per the order, Jadhav will be banned from entering Mumbra from March 27 to April 9. According to the order, this order has been issued to protect public peace and public property and life from any kind of danger.
