Here’s some good news if you’re a frequent bus passenger in Mumbai who gets annoyed by the mayhem and loudness. No longer allowed inside the cars are loud cellphone calls or music unless a headset is used.
According to PTI, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has outlawed loud cell phone conversations and playing music or videos without headphones while riding the buses as of this week.
In accordance with the new rule, all passengers using Mumbai and neighboring cities’ public transportation system BEST buses must wear headphones while streaming movies or listening to audio on their mobile devices.
The municipal civic transportation organization’s decision was made in light of how often passengers complain about the issue.
A BEST spokeswoman told PTI that the new rule banning noise inside the vehicle would assist to prevent bothering other passengers.
The department in question has been directed to post the warning on all the buses after BEST issued a notification on April 24 banning such sounds.
The official has said that this new law would be made aware to all staff members working on BEST buses, including those of the wet-leased vehicles hired from private businesses, and they will be instructed to take appropriate action, according to PTI.
In the cities of Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Mira-Bhayander, the BEST offers public transportation services with a fleet of around 3,400 buses.
Over 30 lakh people go in and out of these buses each day from various districts of Mumbai.
