On August 9, the police received a complaint that a 34-year-old graphic designer had reportedly killed his 28-year-old girlfriend by drowning her at her Naigaon home. Even worse, after doing this heinous deed, the man’s wife helped him hide the corpse by putting it in a bag.
The couple then rode a scooter over 150 kilometers with their two-year-old daughter and dumped the corpse next to a stream in Valsad, Gujarat.
Manohar Shukla was reportedly arrested early on Tuesday from his home in Evershine, Vasai. Later, his wife Poornima was taken into custody. The crime was discovered during the course of the mid-August inquiry into a missing person complaint made by the victim’s sister.
Manohar admitted under questioning that he killed hairdresser Naina Mahat because she refused to drop two rape and assault claims she had made against him in 2019.
In Vasai in 2013, Manohar and Mahat lived next door to one another. A year later, their love relationship started. He got married to Poornima in 2018, yet he still had an affair. When Poornima learned about the affair at the beginning of 2019, she confronted them.
Cops arrested the suspect almost a month after Nahat’s sister reported him missing because there was no CCTV evidence of her leaving the building on August 9 after entering it with him.
Police said that when Shukla admitted to the crime, their colleagues in Valsad verified that they had discovered a dead corpse last month. Later, a tattoo was used to identify the body. However, police have chosen to do a DNA test and compare samples with her sister.
