The first stage of the subterranean Metro 3 project, which will link Colaba, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), and Aarey, is almost finished, according to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC). By the end of this year or the beginning of 2024, the line is anticipated to be available to commuters.
The project would significantly improve the city’s public transportation system since it will be the only Mumbai Metro route that links the island metropolis to the suburbs. The forthcoming router will provide access to the Mumbai airport’s international and domestic terminals as well as the BKC financial area.
The first phase of the Mumbai Metro project is moving along as expected, according to Ashwini Bhide, managing director of MMRC, and they anticipate having it operational by the end of this year, according to Times Now. Phase I’s intended activation date is December 2023, however it may be postponed until March 2024.
By October, the line’s construction is probably finished, at which point service testing may begin. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will then examine the route starting in December.
Some stations in phase II may take longer to build since the Mumbai Metro project’s overall route (both phases) is 33 kilometers in length, making it the longest underground metro track. The metro project, which was supposed to be done by 2021, was delayed by approximately 30 months due to a number of problems. Lack of room and restrictions on the techniques that might be employed to install the subterranean lines contributed to further development delays.
The Mumbai Metro 3 project will only open a few stations at first. Nine stations make up the project’s first phase, which runs from BKC to Aarey and provides important connection to the city’s key employment centers, including MIDC and Seepz in Andheri (East), BKC, and the airport. On the 12-kilometer segment, the MMRC plans to run 110 services with a 25-minute travel time.
There will be a total of 26 subterranean stations in the Mumbai Metro 3 project.
