Mumbai has been experiencing nonstop rain since Janmashtami, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow warning’ for the city on Saturday.
The city, along with the nearby districts of Thane, Raigad, and Palghar, may see further heavy rains, thunderstorms, and lightning, according to the IMD prediction.
According to a report in Indian Express, meteorologists and weather experts have ascribed the heavy rains to the passage of the Low Pressure Area weather system into Chhattisgarh.
Godavari River water is now flowing at a larger capacity than normal due to recent heavy rains in Maharashtra. There are reportedly many minor temples that are underwater. Some people believed that if the scenario persisted, the water may flow at a dangerously high rate.
UPDATES ON MAHARASHTRA RAIN IN POINTS:
• Thane and Palghar may see the heaviest rainfall. Nashik, Pune, and Washim Nandurbar. According to reports from the area, Washim district has been experiencing mild to moderate rain since Friday night.
• The amount of rain on Saturday morning increased, according to some images from Washim. The kharif crops were on the point of failure owing to the heat in August, but the rain has been helpful for the farmers.
According to a local source, it has been raining heavily in the Nandurbar district’s Navapur taluka for the last two days. Due to the intense rain, the river nearby has been overflowing. The bridge on the Khoksa-Chinchpada route in the Nawapur taluka has been swept away, cutting off ten villages.
• According to a report, Mumbai’s low-lying neighborhoods have collected water. Kurla, Ghatkopar, Chembur, Bhandup, and Mulund are among the areas that had an abundance of rain. On the LBS route, this resulted in waterlogging in low-lying sections.
• Chankapur, Amburdi, Jamshet, and Abhona regions in the western portion of Kalwan taluka in Nashik district had significant rains. Agricultural crops like soybeans and corn stand to gain from the scenario.
• On Friday, there was significant rain in certain areas of Mumbai. According to the IMD, 70 mm of rain fell in the suburbs between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, prompting the IMD to issue a yellow warning (heavy rainfall) for several areas on Saturday.
• While the Santacruz weather station in the western suburbs reported 70.3 mm of rainfall with a high temperature of 28.8 degrees Celsius, the Colaba weather station in south Mumbai recorded 46 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm.
