Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, toured many areas of Mumbai on Tuesday morning in order to assess the measures implemented to reduce air pollution and dust. He said that the city municipal authority has been instructed to do cloud seeding if necessary.
According to Shinde, the municipal authority has already contacted a Dubai-based business that has a 100% accuracy rate when it comes to cloud seeding, and an agreement (MoU) will be inked with them.
“Every effort would be made by the municipal corporation and the government to lessen pollution in Mumbai. If necessary, the municipal body has been instructed to do cloud seeding,” he said.
As part of his early morning assessment of different activities carried out in the city as part of the dust and air pollution control measures, the Chief Medical Officer was responding to questions from journalists at Jogger’s Park in suburban Bandra.
An artificial method called “cloud seeding” is used to increase the likelihood of rain.
Shinde examined the numerous cleaning and washing projects done on roads and walkways as part of dust control efforts at Pedder Road, Bandra, Kalanagar, Milan Subway, Juhu, and Santacruz.
According to the chief minister, he has given the municipal commissioner instructions to rent 1,000 tankers and wash the city’s roadways every other day.
“If all the roads in Mumbai are washed on alternate days, dust will be greatly reduced and air pollution will also go down,” he said.
As part of measures to reduce air pollution, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Monday that 584 km of roads in 24 municipal wards of the city are routinely cleaned and washed using 121 tankers and other dust-controlling equipment
.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, he also examined sophisticated equipment used to clear roadside dust, including fogger machines, and he also provided the required guidance to the municipal staff.
The Chief Minister was joined on this morning’s review visit by BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Sudhakar Shinde, and many other high-ranking municipal officials.
