Schools in Kozhikode, Kerala, will be closed for a week starting on Sunday, September 24, due to the Nipah virus epidemic. Tutoring centers, universities, and schools are all affected by this shutdown. The district administration has also stated that online courses would still be offered during this time.
Veena George, Kerala’s health minister, said that 130 more names were added to the list of 1,080 persons who are now sick. 327 of these are healthcare professionals. 29 persons from different districts have been identified as contacts of Nipah-infected patients, with 22 of them living in Malappuram, one in Wayanad, and three in each of Kannur and Thrissur.
175 of these interactions are high-risk regular individuals, and 122 are healthcare professionals. The health minister said that more persons are anticipated to be added to the contact list as a consequence of the positive test result for the person who died away on August 30 and who is now considered the district’s index case for Nipah.
Currently, four people are receiving medical treatment for the six positive Nipah Virus cases that the state has documented. 17 others who were present for the cremation of the guy who died away on August 30 have also been isolated.
Hospitals caring for Nipah patients are expected to set up medical boards that meet twice daily and submit reports to the health authorities in order to guarantee proper treatment. As instructed by the district collector, these actions are in compliance with the state’s infectious disease control regulations.
