Polio vaccination team attacked, one jawan killed
An unidentified assailant attacked a polio vaccination team in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing one soldier and injuring another.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement, “The assailants opened fire on a polio team in North Waziristan tribal district, killing one jawan and injuring another.”
It was told in the statement that keeping in view the security along with the polio team, jawans were sent with them. After this incident, security forces sealed the area. Door-to-door anti-polio vaccination campaign is going on amidst tight security.
In recent years, terrorists have severely hampered the efforts of vaccination teams to eliminate the virus. Pakistan is one of the countries where polio is still not completely eradicated.
